American Head of Boarding Position

Overview: The Head of Boarding plays a vital role in shaping the future of the boarding program. Their expertise in boarding communities will provide the necessary leadership to ensure that every boarder is valued and empowered to achieve their full potential in all aspects of school life. With a strategic direction to create a seamless integration between academic and boarding life, the Head of Boarding will inspire an inclusive and engaging co-curricular experience for all students. The Head of Boarding will manage, train, and develop staff in combination with a senior Chinese counterpart to provide a transformative experience for all.

Responsibilities:
-Ensure the safeguarding and well-being of all boarders.
-Create and sustain the experience, tone and ethos of the boarding program.
-Promote the school’s values and rules, and maintain good order, discipline and
respect for others among students.          -Ensure that each student’s individual circumstances, needs, strengths and
weaknesses are identified and known by staff as needed.
-Ensure that the pastoral needs of each student are met.
-Develop a program of activities that students will enjoy and that will help them
grow after their regular school day is over.
-Maintain consistency in the pastoral and academic approach, particularly in areas
that impact students’ academic progress.
-Take specific actions in interleading, guiding, advising and directing the boarding
teams.
-Lead the development and training of boarding staff; ensure the highest standards of
performance, and demonstrate commitment to self-improvement, personal
development, and a genuinely reflective professional culture.
-Ensure that all department members build and maintain cooperative relationships
with parents and carers and communicate with them with empathy and authority.
-Be fiscally minded.

Skills & Experience:
-Extensive experience working in a boarding position and having successfully taken on significant leadership and management responsibilities.
-Worked within an international school setting.
-Ability to manage a challenging workload and maintain calm in difficult and
stressful situations.
-Ability to proactively work as a self-starter to initiate and successfully conclude
actions.
-Excellent interpersonal skills and a sensitive cross-cultural communication skills;
-Erudite presenter, sincere caregiver, lifelong learner, and creative educator.
