Position Summary:  

AMIDEAST Iraq English language courses are attended by adult learners from across all sectors, with a wide range of language development needs. AMIDEAST English courses include those for public customers and those for corporate/private clients. Classes are held at AMIDEAST’s office in Erbil, client training sites, and virtually online – with courses from beginning to advanced proficiency levels. AMIDEAST teachers are encouraged to be innovative and creative in their classrooms by incorporating activities that have all students actively participating and engaged. The English Language Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering high quality English language instruction based on assigned courses. The EL Instructor should have a team attitude, be flexible and adaptable, and care about his/her students’ language development.

Due to COVID-19, it is essential that all AMIDEAST Instructors are eager and willing to teach online and to adapt course materials to an online environment. Online courses are hosted on AMIDEAST’s own platform, AMIDEAST Online, with a variety of LMS (learning management system) tools and resources. All instructors are oriented to the LMS and supported in their online course planning, delivery, and assessment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide quality English language instruction for all assigned courses, tailored to individual student needs tailored to either in-person or online classes;
• Prepare relevant lesson plans based on curriculum goals and content;
• Plan and share supplemental materials needed to enhance courses;
• Follow the designated instructional plan and schedule for the course;
• Complete and submit daily teacher’s registers through online platform;
• Provide feedback to supervisors when necessary;
• Submit required attendance records of the students;
• Turn in reports on class progress during the program when necessary;
• Correct homework, exams, quizzes and all assignments in a timely fashion using AMIDEAST Online;
• Conduct student conferences when necessary;
• Assist in EL program planning, assessment creation, and curriculum development;
• Attend teacher meetings and teacher training sessions, as required;
• Participate in teacher professional development sessions, based on prior notice and agreement with supervisor;
• Correspond and engage with students through email and massager applications when needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• University degree
• TESOL certificate (equivalent to CELTA), or M.A. in field
• Minimum 1-2 years of English language teaching experience
• Native or near-native English speaker
• Demonstrated professionalism

Preferred:

• Experience in the Middle East world
• Knowledge of different languages
• Experience with young learners, ESP, curriculum development, and/or assessment.
• Online teaching experience
