Pioneers Baccalaureate School in Nablus, Palestine ([replace]) is currently hiring English and Science teachers for the 2020-2021 school year (September 2020 - May 2021). 

English:

English teaching positions are open in the elementary (grades 1-5), middle (grades 6-8), and high (grades 9-12) school. All English classes are full English immersion. Early elementary classes introduce students to English letters, sounds, and written forms, and focus on steadily increasing students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking capabilities in English as well as instilling positive classroom behavior and a joy of learning. In later elementary and middle school classes, students read both fictional and informational texts and develop their skills in reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. High school students continue to read a wide variety of texts as well as preparing for the SAT I and SAT II English Language exams. Specific teaching certification is not required, but prior teaching experience or experience working with children/youth is preferred.

SCIENCE:

Science teaching positions are open in the middle (grades 6-8), and high (grades 9-12) school. All Science classes are taught in English. Middle school science covers general topics in Earth, Life, and Physical science. High school science includes Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. All classes include a Lab component and incorporate skills and topics from the U.S. Next Generation Science Standards. Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific subject/area, or equivalent education and/or experience.  Specific teaching certification is not required, but prior teaching experience or experience working with children/youth is preferred. 

General Information:

All teaching positions are full-time, amounting to about 20 teaching hours per week (with additional time commitments for planning and school duties). Native-level English fluency is required for all positions.

BENEFITS: 2000 New Israeli Shekels per month, equivalent to approximately $580 at the current exchange rate of 3.45 (a competitive starting teacher salary in the city of Nablus). (The exchange rate has fluctuated in the past between 3.4 and 3.9, which may impact the dollar exchange.) Housing, a travel stipend, and visa coordination are provided. Airfare is subsidized. Foreign teachers and administrators at Pioneers also have opportunities to learn Arabic while at the school.

ABOUT US: We are a bilingual Arabic/English school serving Grades K-12. Our International Program follows the American Common Core Standards, and our High School students take SAT exams, rather than the national Palestinian exam. Pioneers Baccalaureate School was founded to provide a level of education unavailable in Nablus. ABOUT OUR CITY: Nablus was one of the Palestinian cities hit hardest by the Second Intifada, but it is currently undergoing an economic rebirth. With around 300,000 people, it is one of the largest cities in the West Bank. Nablus is still a conservative city with respect to the West Bank as a whole, and in order to maintain the school's good reputation and standing in the community, foreign teachers are expected to uphold certain standards of behavior and dress during their tenure with the school. Teachers are able to form lasting relationships with colleagues and friends, take advantage of opportunities to learn or practice Arabic, and explore all the West Bank has to offer.
