I currently work as a K-12 teacher in Western New York, teaching students from countries such as Yemen, Nepal, Somalia, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and many others. I am well versed in effective second language acquisition pedagogies, culturally responsive lessons, and teaching language through meaningful content. I come with 6 years of teaching experience and a background in creative writing. My teaching philosophy is born form the credence of "imagined communities" -- a concept introduced by language acquisition scholar, Bonny Norton (2010). With respect to this concept, my goal is for my learners to feel comfortable and valued in their new language community.
